Orval Abbey is a Cistercian (Trappist) monastery founded in 1132 in the Gaume region of Belgium. There was probably a brewery at Orval through most of its long history. In 1931 the present brewery was built to provide funds for the monastery reconstruction and the livelihood of the monks.
