The Sour Power Sampler Pack includes six assorted 11.2 oz bottles of Petrus oak-aged ale from De Brabandere Brewery. Includes three bottles of Petrus Aged Pale Ale, two bottles of Petrus Aged Red, and one bottle of Petrus Rood Bruin. Feel free to make your own blends from these components!

Petrus Aged Pale is a Sour Ale matured in oak up to 3 years before bottling.

The brew pours a golden blonde color with a moderate white head and an ABV of 7.3%.

Sharp aromas of white wine, vinegar and fruit - lemon, apple, apricot - and mild wood notes herald a flavor profile that charts a similar course but not as tart as the nose.

The finish is dry and sour, with a slight sweetness and sharp carbonation.

Unavailable commercially before 2001, Petrus Aged Pale remains the "mother beer" that De Brabandere Brewery uses in various quantities to blend with its other Petrus brand ales.

Petrus Aged Red has a base of 85% Double Brown Ale to which is added 15% Aged Pale, which provides a dry character and a sour essence. Fresh cherries are added, and the brew undergoes further aging. Garnet red with an off-white head and pronounced cherry flavor, sweet and sour notes are perfectly blended, making the beer very drinkable at 8.5% ABV.

Petrus Rood Bruin is an award winning sour ale aged in oak for up to 20 months before bottling.

A blend of an already sour and matured "mother beer" with a younger, sweeter counterpart, the brew pours a deep red with a moderate tan head and an ABV of 5.5%.

Aromas of caramel sugar, sour cherries and grapes with wood notes and malt herald a flavor profile that charts a similar course and balances perfectly between the sweet and the sour. The finish is dry with a touch of fruit.

De Brabandere Brewery was founded by Adolphe De Brabandere in 1894 as a farm brewery in Bavikhove in the West Flanders region of Belgium. The early years saw the brewery selling mainly table beers and drafts to local clients and cafes, but by 1950, De Brabandere had built much wider distribution due to the appeal of their flavorful brews.

In the 1970s the brewery introduced the beer that would launch a brand and become its flagship, Petrus Oud Bruin, a sour ale whose brew process included years aging in oak barrels.

Passed from father to son, today, a fifth generation still oversees daily operations, and the company remains one of the largest independent breweries in Belgium.

Excellent Sours

I purchased this as a gift for my wife who loves Sours. We tried the Petrus Aged Ale first and holy cow. She exclaimed it was the best sour she'd ever had. We opened the rest at a party with friends and even people who didn't like sours or had never tried one absolutely loved them.
