Oude Gueuze (ABV 6%) from traditional lambic producer Hanssens Artisanaal is a Gueuze Lambic that pours hazy orange-gold with an off white head.

Lambics of several vintages are blended, then receive a secondary fermentation in the bottle, which is cellared for a minimum of six months.

The strong, tart, funky aroma contains notes of earthy wood, cut hay, lemon, sour apple and vanilla. The taste is assertively, intensely tart, with flavors of rhubarb and citrus augmented by earthy, nutty notes. Crisp, refreshing and bracing, with relative dryness and high carbonation, this is a great example of the Belgian Gueuze.

Beginning in the late 19th century, Hanssens Artisanaal in Dworp, Belgium spent its first several decades brewing and blending (mostly) lambic style beers. Due to the seizure of the brewery by German occupying forces during WWI, owner Bartholome Hanssens was no longer able to sustain production as a lambic brewery, so he refocused attention on lambic blending. He purchased wort – the beer's sweet unfermented precursor – from other Senne River breweries, matured each acquisition individually, then painstakingly blended the resulting lambics together, and barrel aged the blend.

Today, Hanssens remains a traditional lambic blendery, producing only authentic, unsweetened, and unpasteurized lambics under a fourth generation of the Hanssens family.

This is a refreshing Belgian Lambic with a taste of tangy goodness that settles down after a few swallows. It's good to relax an have after a hot afternoon.
