De Ranke XXX Bitter is a Belgian Golden Ale with IPA style---and even more hop flavor than its brother brew, XX Bitter. It pours light, hazy gold with a billowy, off-white head and great retention.

Aroma features earthy hops with a citrus undertone, grapefruit zest, and mossy and floral notes,

The hops give a bitter kick to the woodsy and spicy taste, LIght and creamy in body, the texture is champagne-like; finish is long and refreshingly hoppy. 6% ABV.

Food Pairings

Pair with spicy seafood dishes and fried foods, or with Blue Cheese, Cheddar, Edam, or Gorgonzola. Serve at 46 – 54 degrees F.

The De Ranke Brewery was founded in 1996 by good friends Nino Bacelle and Guido Devos, hobby brewers who turned a part-time obsession into a successful commercial venture.

At first brewing only on weekends using the equipment and facilities of an existing craft brewery, De Ranke soon established a reputation for producing robust and flavorful ales with a massive hops profile; hops, in their philosophy, are the single most important ingredient in any ale. They embraced traditional brewing methods (without eschewing helpful new technologies) and used only the freshest natural ingredients like real hop flowers instead of cheap hop extracts like many of their larger more commercially driven counterparts.

As a result, De Ranke brews grew steadily in popularity and demand; in the late 2000s, De Ranke was able to relocate to its own brewery in Dottignies in the Hainaut province of Belgium.

Today, De Ranke Brewery exports award winning hop-centric ales to nine different countries including the United States, India, France and Japan.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: When breweries like De Ranke use large amounts of hops, they do it to add a truly sophisticated level of complexity to their beer. The Belgians are famous for their well-balanced hoppy beers - a level of brewing excellence that many other breweries have a hard time replicating. The De Ranke XXX Bitter is nothing like we have ever had before in a Belgian hoppy beer. Drinking it and experiencing the layers of complexity is like enjoying a well-timed, multi-course meal. For those of you who are hop-heads, you will love this beer! And because it is at only 6% ABV, it is very sessionable. Seek this one out (and all the De Ranke beers)! Aging this beer would be a very interesting outcome; we would love to hear from fans that have any that they have aged and have tasted recently. Our eyes have been opened to the possibility of great world-class hoppy beers! For more, visit our BREWVIEW ON DE RANKE XXX BITTER: https://belgianbeerjournal.com/brewviews/derankexxxbitter
