Great Lakes Burning River (ABV 6.0%) is an assertively hopped American Pale Ale, clear amber in color, with the citrusy and piney aroma of Cascade hops. Subtle caramel malt flavors balance the hop profile and provide a satisfying dry finish. It's named for the infamous 1969 burning of the Cuyahoga River that sparked the Clean Water Act of 1972.

Great Lakes Commodore Perry IPA (ABV 7.5%) is clear copper in color, with a lasting white head. Aroma is herbal and citrusy; spicy, resinous, bitter hop flavors are well-balanced with caramel malt. Medium bodied with a dry, fruity finish, its name honors the hero from The War of 1812 who battled the enemy on Lake Erie.

Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold (ABV 5.8%) is complex and satisfying; a smooth, golden lager that strikes a delicate balance between malt and hops in the aroma, palate, finish and body. It has more body and less hops than a Pilsner, and less malt and more hops than a Munich style lager; brewed in the style developed by the 19th century brewers of Dortmund, Germany.

Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald (ABV 5.8%) is a flavorful porter, deep brown in color, with glints of ruby and a small tan head. Complex, roasty aroma heralds a bittersweet, chocolate-coffee taste and a bold hop presence. Robust and drinkable, it is named for the great ship that tragically sank in Lake Superior in 1975 with many Northeast Ohioans on board.

Great Lakes Eliot Ness (ABV 6.2%) is a deep amber-red Vienna-style lager with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate, leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland's most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub's bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

Great Lakes Holy Moses White Ale (ABV 5.4%) is named for Cleveland's founder, Moses Cleaveland, who landed at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River in July of 1796, not far from where the brewery would be founded about 190 years later. A complex and heavily aromatic ale, Holy Moses is brewed with a blend of Harrington 2-Row, wheat, and oat malts and Mount Hood hops. Orange peel, chamomile, and coriander add citrus, spice, and floral characteristics. Pale gold and hazy, with a frothy white head, it's refreshing and crisp, with a clean, dry finish. 12 oz. bottles.
The Great Lakes Brewing Company was established in 1988 as the first brewpub and microbrewery in Ohio by brothers Patrick and Daniel Conway in Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood; by 2013 it was the 20th-largest craft brewery and 28th-largest overall brewery in the United States.

First Experience with Great Lakes
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Jun 3, 2017  |  By Jill H.
This is my first experience with Great Lakes since we don't have it on the West Coast. I heard about Great Lakes from an internet personality that I watch. Curiosity got the best of me and I ordered it. While I'm not a fan of IPA in general this one was strong but good. And the Amber Lager has easily moved into my #1 favorite position. I'm glad I tried them all.
