La Trappe Quadrupel (ABV 10%) has a beautiful deep amber color and a lasting tan head. The aroma is of dark fruits and caramel; the warm taste is full and well-balanced; sweet notes of cherry, raisin, plum and vanilla are complemented by a pleasantly bitter and lasting finish. Rich and satisfying when first brewed, Quadrupel rewards respectful aging. 11.2 oz (capped) bottles.

Koningshoeven Abbey: Tilburg, The Netherlands

For more than a century, the towers of the Trappist Abbey of Our Lady of Koningshoeven have formed a significant element in the landscape east of Tilburg in The Netherlands. In 1880, when antichurch legislation threatened the existence of French monasteries, Dom Dominicus Lacaes, abbot of the Trappist monastery Sainte-Marie-du-Mont on Mont-des-Cats in northern France, became concerned about the fate of his monks. The Netherlands offered a refuge near the little town of Berkel-Enschot: an area of open heath with several small farmhouses and a sheepfold. The local people called this area 'Koningshoeven' (The King's Farmhouses) since it had once been owned by King William II. In 1881 Koningshoeven became the first Cistercian monastery in The Netherlands since the Reformation. In the early years, the monks discovered that farming the poor land could not support them, and so they started a small brewery, still the most important source of income for the monastery. As an authentic Trappist brewery, business at Koningshoeven is guided by Father Abbot Bernardus, who oversees every aspect of the day-to-day operations. Bernardus' is the final word on packaging, recipes, and image, and his daily involvement ensures that the entire brewing staff remain mindful of the special place in which they work. During the past few years, the monastic complex at Koningshoeven has been thoroughly renovated for the group of 16 monks now living, working and praying there.

Best Trappist I have tried so far

This beer is fantastic. I love Chimay but I think this one is better. Very flavorful (like bananas foster) and complex.

Excellent Belgian Quadrupel

When I think of a Belgian Quadrupel, there are only a few beers that come to mind. This is the one that comes to mind first. It's perfectly balanced, mildly sweet, and very flavorful. One of the few better ones is the (much more expensive) barrel aged version of this same beer.

A beautiful meal to be savored

The first professional golf tournament I ever attended was the Masters. The first Belgian Trappist Ale I ever drank was La Trappe - even though it's not really from Belgium! What an introduction to both. Thanks to my old pal, Alan, for ordering me a La Trappe at a tavern in Wayne, Pa. It was love at first sip. There's so much flavor going in with this brew that it sings in your mouth. I've had many Belgium and Trappist ales since. But La Trappe is my go-to choice.

This is a very trying time, all over the world. I ordered a case of beer which was out of stock. However Belgian style Ale let me know that, and as soon as the beer was in stock, it was sent to me. I got it in a very timely manner and look forward to gifting it to my son-in-law for Christmas.

Given its punch, consume in moderation, but one of the very best beers I've ever had!

OVERALL IMPRESSION: La Trappe Quadrupel is in our TOP 100 beers list of all time and is a must have! It is one of those beers that should be savored very slowly. Brandy, vanilla bean, warm Bananas Foster on top of Haagen-Dazs Vanilla ice cream, roasty creme brulee crackle, with a very slight hint of black pepper. Fresh Trappist yeast flavors round this out. Absolutely delicious and simply phenomenal. God bless the monks at Abdij O.L.V. Koningshoeven!
