Dead Man's Hand (ABV 10%) from Brouwerij Het Nest is a Belgian version of Russian Imperial Stout aged in wine barrels.

It pours nearly black with ruby glints and a vigorous tan head, releasing aromas of dark fruit, dried cherries, and bitter chocolate with woody, vinous, and earthy notes.

The taste offers a fine balance of sweet, dry, and bitter, with the acidity of tart cherries and the deep lushness of dark chocolate and coffee.

Ratebeer.com rating: 89 (out of 100); 11.2 oz capped bottle.

Food-pairing: Mature cheese, game dishes, seafood

Het Nest Brewery in Turnhout, Belgium began in 2000 as the beer-tasting club of a group of 8 friends. Their avocation became a passion. After taking a brewing course in 2006, they began home brewing, and won third place in their first competition. Turnhout being known for the manufacture of playing cards, they developed a line of beers on that theme, brewing at Boelens, Anders, and Pirlot Breweries until in 2015, they built their own new, ultramodern brewery.
