Saison D'Epeautre (ABV 6.0%) is made in a unique traditional style, using spelt (epeautre) and barley malt in the mash. Pale gold, with a huge white head, it's very dry and light in body, with a hint of wheaty tartness and a hearty texture that expresses the character of spelt, a primitive strain of wheat. It has a wonderfully heady, musty, cellar character that is unmistakably Belgian and a lot like champagne. The taste delivers on the promise of the nose. Very enjoyable, and perfect for summer, but wonderful at any time of year. Ratebeer.com rating: 91 (out of 100) 12.7 oz (corked) bottle.
Brasserie de Blaugies was founded in 1987 by married schoolteachers Marie-Noëlle Pourtois and Pierre-Alex Carlier, who are adventurous in recreating traditional farmhouse beer styles. Their tiny brewery is built into the garage of a comfortable farmhouse, and is operated by Pourtois, Carlier, and their two sons. Their output is small, but so well-crafted that it's highly regarded among connoisseurs of fine Belgian Ales.

World Class Saison
Jun 22, 2023 | By Jim B
This is a world renowned Belgian Saison made with traditional brewing methods. Produced in small batches in a family owned brewery. This Saison is one of my all time favorites. Effervescent, layered flavor profile and nicely complex. Made with spelt and other traditional ingredients this Saison is often copied by other brewers but nothing tops the original. It is one of the best Saisons in the world.
