Cuvee d'Erpigny Pedro Ximenez (ABV 12%) from Alvinne Brewery is their Pays d'Erpigny – a strong blond barley wine-style beer -- aged for 1 year in Pedro Ximenez sherry barrels.

It pours a hazy dark orange amber with a creamy yellow head, and offers a sweet bouquet of floral, fruit, and spice notes: ripe peach, pineapple, almond, vanilla, marmalade, ginger, clove, and sweet sherry.

Mildly carbonated, it has a mellow, rich sweetness balanced with a touch of tartness. Similar to the aroma, the taste is reminiscent of peach and pineapple, with notes of savory, spicy yeast and darker undertones of toffee, dried fruits, and oak. Ratebeer.com rating: 87 (out of 100) (capped) 11.2 oz bottle.

The Alvinne Brewery was begun in 2004 by Davy Spiessens and Glenn Castelein. They were joined by Marc DeKeukeleire who brought his own cultivated yeast strain known as Morpheus, which has a very high alcohol tolerance. They aim to produce world class, innovative beers of mixed fermentation, making creative use of malt, water, hops, and yeast, and then aging their base beers on used oak barrels and/or with fruits, berries, or flowers.
